ISO 3901 defines the twelve-character ISRC shape without a check digit. A code that passes shape validation is well formed, though you should always copy it directly from your distributor or national ISRC agency rather than retyping it. Every new mix, edit or remaster is a distinct recording and requires its own ISRC.
