Songwriting splits

A split sheet that has to add up.

Write down who wrote the song, who publishes each share, and what each share is, while everyone still remembers the session. The totals check live. Export it as Markdown or CSV, print it, and have every party sign. It is a session document, not a registration: Thermal does not file it anywhere.

Nothing here is sent anywhere until you choose to. Start a release with this split: the sheet goes into the run as material. Registering the recording next? Check the ISRCs and count the rights dates back from release day.

Questions

What is the difference between writer share and publisher share?

The writer share is each person's part of the composition. The publisher share says who administers that part. Each column totals 100 on its own. If nobody has a publishing deal yet, leave the publisher columns blank; the sheet says so instead of guessing.

Does this sheet register the song?

No. Once it is signed, register the work with your PRO and The MLC yourself. The IPI field only checks the shape, 9 to 11 digits. It does not look anyone up.

Is anything saved?

No. The sheet lives in this tab. Download or copy it before you close the page.
