How to find the key of a song.
To find the key of a song, match its twelve pitch-class energies against major and minor profiles and check the tonic note at the final cadence. Drop your audio file below to run that chroma read and tempo measurement directly in your browser without uploading the track.
Dark means unlike. Light means alike. The same six colors on every track.
Next move: Start a release from this read. How to check the file never left.
The method
How the key and tempo are measured.
Key is a 12-bin chroma match against Krumhansl-Schmuckler profiles, printed only when correlation is above 0.55. Tempo is autocorrelation on spectral flux, folded into 70 to 180 BPM and rounded to an integer. Files longer than 90 seconds are read in nine spaced chunks. The usual miss on key is relative major or minor when the third is soft. See the full miss list.
