Loudness and headroom

What LUFS to master for Spotify.

Spotify normalizes default playback to -14 dB integrated LUFS (measured to ITU-R BS.1770-4) and recommends a true-peak ceiling of -1 dBTP, or -2 dBTP if your master is louder than -14 LUFS (Spotify for Artists Loudness Normalization). Drop your master below to measure integrated LUFS, loudness range and true peak in your browser.

Where each loudness figure comes from.

Spotify documents three playback normalization levels in Spotify for Artists: Loudness normalization: -14 dB LUFS for Normal, -19 dB LUFS for Quiet, and -11 dB LUFS for Loud (with a dynamic limiter that engages at -1 dBTP). For lossy transcoding headroom, Spotify asks for a maximum true peak of -1 dBTP on tracks at or below -14 LUFS, and -2 dBTP on tracks louder than -14 LUFS.

Integrated loudness is measured per ITU-R BS.1770-4 using K-weighting, 400 ms gating blocks overlapped at 100 ms, an absolute gate at -70 LUFS, and a relative gate 10 LU below the ungated mean. Loudness range (LRA) is measured per EBU Tech 3342 across 3 second blocks from the 10th to the 95th percentile.
